Hairy Manzanita (Arctostaphtlos columbiana) is a red-barked tall shrub gracing the younger forest areas and familiar to most of us. I have always loved its curling papery bark, grey fuzzy twigs and tiny apple shaped fruits. Hummingbirds zing through its dark branches, sipping nectar from the flowers. This wood is so evocative just the way it is that all I can imagine doing is to allow it to speak for itself, to literally present it in a frame.
