Kathy Carl, in her first featured exhibit as a Partners Gallery artist, has taken a unique approach to printmaking. The eco-friendly Solarplate process allowed her to move away from the toxic materials of traditional etching methods. Her imagery progressed from representational to abstractions as she began using unconventional tools to create images on the surface of the plates. Cut-up credit cards, notched adhesive spreaders, container lids, and string provided alternative methods of mark-making.
"These original prints are about my personal impressions of our coastal surroundings, where I find an exciting calmness as these visions fill the blank surface."
