For some time I have been making paintings about time; in the last three years delving into the subject of noon. I have always strived for the essential and elemental—why I‘m an abstract painter—and mystery, surprise, the creation of presence and the quest for absolute beauty intrigue me. Inspired by the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death and re-reading his vision of the soul’s progress toward heaven, I embarked on my own depiction of his voyage from hell into the light, with my Commedia. Little did I know that while painting it I would have to begin my own exile—not from Florence—but from my beloved studio of many years when the building I was renting sold. During this upheaval and the necessity to haul so much into storage, the strange painting I call Interruption evolved. Afterwards, in a small and darker work space I began the midnight paintings. The poetry of this chronology I entrust to the viewer.‍
