This work is inspired by 19th century Farmer's Almanacs handed down through my family. The almanacs promised, "New, Useful and Entertaining Matter," which included among other things, astrological calculations, weather predictions, poetry, and tips for farmers and housewives. The yearly publications provide a glimpse into life around 150 years ago that I found fascinating and touching. The titles of the pieces are direct quotes from the almanacs, for example: "No Time To Lose Now," "Some Sun Some Showers," “Small Fruits,” and “Change in the Weather.” I incorporate oil, graphite, pastel, and ink with my wax technique to achieve rich and varied surfaces. My collages incorporate some original material from an already tattered Farmer's Almanac.
